Melbourne Yoga Sports Classes

Yoga Sports

What is Yoga Sports?

The Yoga Sports class is a drill based progression class designed to increase your understanding of yoga asanas. The class is 90 minutes, in a warm room, featuring a warm-up sequence and some mobility exercises followed by a series of posture development drills. There are many yoga postures across a great many styles of yoga but can generally place most yoga postures into one of the six major categories. These categories are forward compressions, backbends, tractions, twists, lifts, and inversions.

In each class, your coach will choose one posture from each category and teach you a drill to show you how to get into and out of the posture safely. While simultaneously teaching you how to get the maximum mental and physical benefit from the drill, improving your ability to do each posture. Each drill scales with the individual participant's ability, strength, and flexibility, meaning everyone can participate in every drill, regardless of age or physical ability.

Every Yoga Sports class is suitable for all ability levels, from the very beginner who has never done yoga before to advanced practitioners with many years of experience.

For beginners...

Have you ever gone to a class and felt overwhelmed or thought, "How am I supposed to do this posture?", "What am I even doing here?" or "I'll never be able to bend my body in that way..."? It's a feeling many of us have had from time to time when practising yoga. With over 8 million yoga postures across all different types and styles of yoga, It's no wonder we can feel this way from time to time. All of these postures have varying degrees of difficulty in strength, balance and flexibility, making some postures feel daunting and unattainable. Every Yoga Sports class will help you gradually build the required strength, balance and flexibility for each posture in a fun and safe environment. The coach will also help you develop the necessary skills and techniques to help you achieve your goals in each posture. Approaching your practice from this point of view makes each step of the posture achievable with your body's current ability.
